Week 25:

Hello, family and friends,

I'd like you to meet Elder Jones. He is from Mesa, Arizona, and has been on the mission for seven months and two days, one transfer more than I have. He plays guitar, and before the mission played in a band and taught children how to play. He has been in four more areas than I have, all out in the country or less urban parts of the city, so coming here to Osasco has been a change. He likes cookies, popcorn, and ice cream, and is in many ways a cool guy.
He's also a really good missionary. He explains things in a very clear way, and asks questions to make the people we teach actually pay attention and theoretically learn something. This week we didn't have a lot of opportunities to teach, but we're going to search for more people this week and hopefully bring some people to baptism.

And your scripture:

Ether 12:27
And if men come unto me I will show unto them their weakness. I give unto men weakness that they may be humble; and my grace is sufficient for all men that humble themselves before me; for if they humble themselves before me, and have faith in me, then will I make weak things become strong unto them.

These words, spoken by God to the prophet Moroni, are a response to his concern that other people would mock the words that Moroni was writing. The counsel he gave here can be applied to each of us as well.
All of us have weaknesses. We have difficulties and can't do everything alone. God knows this. He says here that he will strengthen us, if we will do our part. Luckily, our part is not a lot.
First, we need to "come unto" Him. The way to come to him is through prayer. In prayer, we can speak directly with our Father in Heaven, and He will respond to us. He will "show unto [us our] weakness."
Second, we need to humble ourselves. With humility, we acknowledge that we have weaknesses, and that we need God's help.
Third, we must have faith in Him. As James explained, faith is a principle of action. We need to go forward believing that we will be strengthened, and God will help us.

I know this church is true. I know that God is our loving Heavenly Father, and that he hears and answers our prayers. Thank you all,

Élder Hiatt
