Week 22: As Novas
Hello family and friends,
Welcome back to Elder Hiatt News, direct from Osasco, São Paulo, Brazil.
First up this week: Wednesday morning, Elder Hiatt went with his companion, Elder Bulkley, to the Zone Conference which took place in the chapel located to the side of the São Paulo Temple. There, trainings were given by President Horsley, president of the São Paulo Oeste mission, concerning the importance of Joseph Smith as a prophet, seeker of knowledge, and example for missionaries and investigators. Additional discussion was given concerning inviting investigators to act and repent of their sins to become more like Christ.
Exclusive interview: We have received word that during this conference, Elder Hiatt had a private interview with President Horsley himself, in which he was given a small amount of information about the approaching transfer. He was not given any names, but is confident that at the end of two more weeks he will be relocated to a different area in the mission with another missionary who knows how to have fun, because Elder Hiatt still hasn't learned.
On to Friday, when we have confirmed report that Elder Hiatt did in fact move houses. Rather than living in a massive apartment complex on the far end of the area, he and Elder Bulkley spent the second half of this day taking down everything and carting it over to a smaller building near the center of the area and only four minutes from the church building. After three days in the new apartment, he can say that it is in many ways an improvement.
Saturday afternoon, in the course of the work, Elder Hiatt found himself with a small amount of time between meetings, and went to visit a member who works with speech therapy. After a short conversation, it was determined that he has a stutter, which shows itself in awkward pauses during speech, if anything is said at all. More visits will be made to resolve this issue.
Two investigators made their way to church this Sunday. One is the husband and father of a family of members, who was already baptized in another church and doesn't want to get baptized here just to switch again sometime later in life. We're working with him, and he comes to church every week. The other is a relative of a recent convert who we met once Saturday night and may or may not ever see again. The families that we are teaching still have not managed to go to church more than one time each, if at all.
And now, the weather.
Senhor, Tu És O Meu Salvador
(Savior, Redeemer Of My Soul)
Senhor, Tu és o meu Salvador
Que me encheste de Teu amor
Que me salvaste com perdão
E me levaste à salvação
És meu refugio de todo mal
Grandioso Deus de Israel
Nunca consigo Te pagar
Mas Tua palavra posso amar
E minha só deleita é
Obedecer a Tua lei
Que os meus lábios sempre vão
Compartilhar a Tua salvação
Guia-me para todo bem
De mal protege-me também
Correge-me até estiver
Mesmo contigo parecer
Digno me faze de Teu amor
Para voltar ao Teu eterno lar.
(I have been informed that the line "And now, the weather" was used the last time a song was included in one of these broadcasts. I apologize for the inconvenience.)
Finally, a brief message from our sponsor. We have been informed that he passed by the Distribution Center after the Zone Conference, and will now share a brief scripture with you in every language that he has found, in descending order of number of pages in the Book of Mormon for each language. Explanations will be provided in the languages he understands well enough.

1 Nefi 2:3

1 Nephi 2:3
And it came to pass that he was obedient unto the word of the Lord, wherefore he did as the Lord commanded him.
In the beginning of the Book of Mormon, the prophet Lehi was commanded to leave Jerusalem and all that he had there, in order to save his life and go to the promissed land, the Americas. We read here that he was obedient, and did what the Lord commanded.
This is important. Lehi did what was asked. Frequently, we think of commandments, we think of things we are asked not to do. Thou shalt not steal, thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain, etc. However, in many cases, the commandments of God are calls to action, to do something good rather than not do something bad.
Part of our purpose here is to see if we will do all that God commands us. It is to follow Christ's example and do good continually.
This week, let's do what the Lord commands. We have many opportunities to foll Christ, and can follow his example in everything we do.
Thank you for watching. We'll see you next week on Elder Hiatt News. I'm Elder Hiatt, and remember kids, God made you special, and He loves you very much. Bye!
