Week 21: O Amor de Deus

Hello family and friends,

So, this week we did some stuff. It rained a bit. We taught a few lessons. One investigator came to church for about the eighth time without agreeing to be baptized. Normal stuffs.

As I was reading in Preach My Gospel this morning about the Restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, I thought about why we teach these things. What is the purpose of what we do? And then I found the answer:

John 3:16

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We receive many blessings from God. Health, knowledge, and even life itself come from Him. In this scripture, we learn of one of the greatest blessings that God has given us: His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ. Because of the Atonement of Christ, we can receive the blessings of forgiveness and eternal life, which is life with our Heavenly Father for eternity.
God doesn't need to give us these blessings. He didn't have to send His Son to suffer and die for us.
But He did. This scripture explains why: For God so loved the world.
For his love for us, He prepared a plan of happiness. For love for us, he prepared a path so we can be worthy to return to His presence some day. For love for us, He sent His only begotten Son to save us.
This week, let us remember that God loves us. We are his children, and He is our Father.

Porque Deus amou o mundo de tal maneira, que deu o seu Filho Unigênito, para que todo aquele que nele crê não pereça, mas tenha a vida eterna.

Recebemos muitas bênçãos de Deus. Saúde, conhecimento, até a vida mesma são de Deus. Nessa escritura, aprendemos de uma das maiores bênçãos que Deus nos deu: Seu Filho Unigênito, Jesus Cristo. Por causa da expiação de Cristo, podemos receber as bênçãos de perdão e vida eterna, que é vida com nosso Pai Celestial para eternidade.
Deus não precisa nos dar todas essas bênçãos. Não precisava dar o seu Filho para sofrer e morrer para nós.
Mas Ele o fez. Essa escritura explica porque: Porque Deus amou o mundo.
Pelo amor por nós, Ele nos preparou um plano de felicidade. Pelo amor por nós, nos criou um caminho para sermos dignos de voltar à presença Dele um dia. Pelo amor de nós, Ele mandou o Seu Filho Unigênito para nos salvar.
Essa semana, vamos nos lembrar que Deus nos ama. Somos filhos e filhas Dele, e Ele é nosso Pai.

Week 6: Última Semana no CTM

Hello family and friends, I took a picture this week. I don´t have any way to get it onto the computer, so I will try to send it next week. A few things to note about this picture: * I am wearing a suit. Some of you said that I would wear a suit about 12 times during my whole mission. Following expectations of the CTM, I wear a suit every Sunday and Wednesday for church and the temple. I have worn it 12 times already, and will wear it again tomorrow. * The clock of the building is in 24 hour time. This is Brazil, where things are a little different from the USA. Times are written in 24 hour time (but said in 12 hour am/pm time). Fasts go during dinner and breakfast and end at lunch. Cars can make left turns from the right lane right in front of another car in the left lane about to go straight. (I did see this happen once.) * My watch. Week 29: Volta à Missão

Hello family and friends, As most if not all of you know, in March of last year I temporarily returned home from serving a mission in São Paulo, Brazil. I was later given the option to be reassigned immediately or to wait a year, and I chose to wait. Since COVID still isn't gone, I'm not yet able to go back to Brazil, so last week Tuesday I got on a plane to continue serving in the Jacksonville Florida mission, which includes most of northern Florida and southern Georgia. After a day of additional training, on Thursday I was assigned to an area around Kingsland and St. Marys in Georgia, where I will spend at least the next five weeks and probably the next three months or beyond. The work here seems to be going well. Several people have been baptized recently, and others are nearly ready to be baptized themselves. We even found a new person to teach on the first day! It's very different from Brazil, but this is where the Lord has sent me, and I will do what I can here in Geo

Week 18: El Fin del Trenamiento

Hello family and friends, As of today, I have completed my training as a missionary, both in the CTM and in the field. Two days ago marked the last non-Sunday day of my training, my half-birthday, and four months in the mission field. (No, I didn't get pizza.) During this time of training, I learned a lot. This includes languages: a lot of Portuguese, a bit of Spanish, a bit of Japanese, and some Haitian Creole. I've been reading The Book of Mormon in all four languages, since they have them here, and have collected three pages worth of synonyms in at least four languages. (It's a lot harder to find specific words in Japanese, so I only have 45 of the 63 words/phrases in Japanese.) I've also learned to like the food here. As some of you know, I was a fairly picky eater before the mission. Here is a list of things I didn't like back then: * Mustard * Onions * Peppers * Olives * Tomatoes * Whipped Cream * Ham * . . .
