Week 16: Joyeus Aniversoir
Hello family and friends,
So, here in Brazil, most people speak Portuguese. There are also people from Bolivia or other countries that speak Spanish, lots of people from Japanese families that may or may not still speak Japanese, and a few people from Haiti that speak French and Creole. This last week, we met and started teaching one of these Haitians. He doesn't quite speak Portuguese yet, but he learned English in Haiti, so we taught him in English and he translated into French/Creole for his cousin's wife. It was kind of weird to have two languages being spoken in the same lesson, neither of which is Portuguese, but also really cool. His birthday was Saturday, and for his birthday we gave him O Livro De Mórmon, which he might be able to understand, and will help him learn Portuguese.
Also the new year started this week. We went home early, ate pizza, and figured out how to make a camel out of a peice of paper. (Actually, that last bit was just me.)
And our scripture:
2 Nefi 27:19-20
Se puotèt sa, se pral konsa, Senyè Bondye a pral bay nonm ki pa save a liv la ak pawòl ki ladan l yo ankò; e nonm ki pa save a pral di: M pa save.
Lè sa a, Senyè Bondye a pral di l: Moun ki save yo p ap li yo, paske yo rejte yo, e m kapab fè travay mwen; se poutèt sa, ou pral li pawòl m pral ba ou yo.
Just kidding, I don't actually know this language.
2 Néfi 27:19-20
Acontecerá, portanto, que o Senhor Deus tornará a entregar o livro e as suas palavras ao que não é instruído; e o homem que não é instruído dirá: Não sou instruído.
Então lhe dirá o Senhor Deus: Os instruídos não as lerão, porque as rejeitaram, e eu posso fazer a minha própria obra; lerás, portanto, as palavras que te darei.
2 Nephi 27:19-20
Wherefore it shall come to pass, that the Lord God will deliver again the book and the words thereof to him that is not learned; and the man that is not learned shall say: I am not learned.
Then shall the Lord God say unto him: The learned shall not read them, for they have rejected them, and I am aable to do mine own work; wherefore thou shalt read the words which I shall give unto thee.
Esse ano, temos a oportunidade de estudar O Livro de Mórmon com toda a igreja.
This year, we have the opportunity to study The Book of Mormon with the entire church.
Começamos essa semana lendo as premeiras páginas: a página de rosto, a intrudução, os depoimentos de três e de oito testemunhas, e o testemunho do Profeta Joseph Smith.
We started this week reading the first pages: the title page, introduction, testimonies of three and eight witnesses, and the testimony of the Prophet Joseph Smith.
Todos deles, e também essa escritura, testificam da divinidade desse livro.
All of these, and also this scripture, testify of the divinity of this book.
O Livro de Mórmon foi "selado pelo mão de Morôni e escondido para o Senhor", "para ser interpretado pelo dom de Deus."
The Book of Mormon was "sealed by the hand of Moroni and hidden up unto the Lord", "the interpretation thereof [done] by the gift of God."
Joseph Smith, quem traduziu o livro, o fez pelo poder de Deus. De acordo com esses versículos, leu as palavras que Deus lhe deu.
Joseph Smith, who translated the book, did it by the power of God. As stated by this scripture, he read the words God gave to him.
Eu sei que o Livro de Mórmon é a palavra de Deus, que com a Bíblia testifica de Cristo. Sei que foi traduzido pelo poder de Deus para nos ensinar a verdade.
I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God, which with the Bible testifies of Christ. I know that it was translated by the power of God to teach us the truth.
Esse ano, ao ler e estudar O Livro de Mórmon, vamos nos lembrar de que esse é uma obra de Deus, que foi feito para nosso benefício. Esse é "o mais correto de todos os livros da Terra e a pedra fundamental de nossa religião."
This year, as we read and study The Book of Mormon, let us remember that this is a work of God, which was done for our benefit. This is "The most correct of any book on Earth and the keystone of our religion."
Eu sei que esse é verdadeiro. Desfrutem o seu estudo esse ano.
