Week 14: Quase Natal
Hello family and friends,
This week we had all of the Christmas parties. On Thursday, we had our mission Conferência de Natal (Christmas Conference). Half of the missionaries of the São Paulo Oeste mission were there (the other half had their conference on Wednesday), so I got to meet a few of them. We had breakfast, then a few lessons about Christmas from our mission president, President Horsley, then lunch, then activities and such. There was a randomized gift exchange, in which I got a lego parrot, and I got to decorate cookies. I took a picture of mine, but still don't know how to get it onto the computer to send it, so you will need to wait a bit longer.
Also this week was the ward Christmas dinner. It officially started at 6:00 on Saturday night. My companion and I showed up at about 6:15 and started talking to the people who were already there. At 7:05, the bishop got on the stage and made the announcement that they were going to actually start and ad the opening prayer. At 7:10, the bishop made another announcement that people could actually go and get food, because everyone was still just sitting and talking. At 8:20 a Christmas presentation (made by the adults of the ward) started, showing the story of Christmas with both appearances of the angel Gabriel to Mary and Joseph, the sheperds, and the wise men. At 8:50, Santa Claus showed up, and at 8:55 we left so we could theoretically get back to our house by 9:30 according to general missionary rules.
On Sunday, we had a ward caroling activity, planned from 4:30 until 5:30 or so. We got there at 4:40, the bishop got up at about 5, and we finished all of the visits at about 7:30. We did still get to visit someone that evening, so the timing isn't really that big of an issue.

Acerca de Jesus de Nazaré, como o Deus o ungiu como Espírito Santo e com poder; o qual andou fazendo o bem, e curando todos os oprimidos do diabo, porque Deus era com ele.
Acts 10:38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Jesus Cristo era Filho de Deus. Ele fez o bem durante todo a vida, porque esse era o propósito Dele.
Jesus Christ was the Son of God. He did good during his whole life, because that was His purpose.
Ele veio para nos trazer alegria, perdão, e liberdade do mal.
He came to bring us joy, forgiveness, and freedom from evil.
Essa escritura explica um pouco sobre como Ele fez isso: "porque Deus era com ele."
This scripture explains partially how He did this: "for God was with him."
Ele trabalhou pelo poder de Deus. Ele era o Cristo, o "Ungido", e tinha o autoridade e poder de Deus para fazer todas essas coisas.
He worked by the power of God. He was the Christ, the "Anointed One", and had the authority and power of God to do all these things.
Nessa igreja, também temos o poder e autoridade de Deus para fazer o bem.
In this church, we also have the power and authority of God to do good.
Então, vamos agir como Cristo e fazer o bem. Vamos convidar Deus a ser conosco como era com Cristo, e trazer mais felicidade ao mundo.
Therefore, let us act like Christ and do good. Let us invite God to be with us as he was with Christ, and bring more happiness to the world.
