Week 8:

Hello family and friends,

This was an exciting week. My companion and I walked around a lot, found some new people that accepted the first lesson who we could theoretically continue teaching if we could ever find them at their house again, and otherwise continued the work here in Osasco. We did get to teach a second lesson to one person, who was never baptized but whose parents are inactive members of the Church. We met his whole family: himself (Johnny), his brother Johnathan, his other brother Michael, his sister, his other very little brother, his parents, his aunt, and one of his cousins, all of whom have names that I don´t remember now. All of them should be members, but I think only the parents and the one aunt are.

We also got some work done on the sink in our apartment. A member started to install a filter for the water so that we can drink it, but the sink is really old and the pipes don´t fit together perfectly, so it leaks. Also, the filter was supposed to be a double filter, but the first one leaked, so we´re just using the second one for now, which works just as well. The member who knows how to fix this should come back sometime this week.

One other thing I did this week. As you may know, my family is fairly musical. One of my aunts, Lindy Kerby, writes music, and one of my favorite of her songs is called Rest in Me. This is a beautiful song about the love of our Savior and peace. The only problem with it is that it was written in English, not Portuguese.
(Emphasis on "was")

Descansai
(E Com Meu Pai Vós Vivereis)

Em cada hora_o Salvador eu conheci
Embora faça erros que_Ele ama sei
Às vezes é difícil encontrar felicidade
Mas todas suas palavras são verdade:

Consolo dou nas aflições enquanto vós me pesquisais
Descansai, descansai

E sinto Ele perto_a mim no coração
Seus braços dão consolo e_o Espírito traz paz
Aquilo que_Ele diz feliz me faz:

Consolo dou nas aflições enquanto vós me pesquisais
Descansai, descansai
Vos guio_ao lar celeste, o preço mal eu já paguei
Descansai, e com Meu Pai, vós vivereis.

Ele para_a tempestade, me enchia com caridade,
Esperando para mim a receber felicidade

Consolo dou nas aflições enquanto vós me pesquisais
Descansai, descansai
Vos guio_ao lar celeste, o preço mal eu já paguei
Descansai, e com Meu Pai, vós vivereis.
Descansai, e com Meu Pai, vós vivereis.

*Note: "_" indicates that the two syllables at the end and beginning of the surrounding words are slurred together. "en" is in parentheses because it doesn´t fit the rhythm to say it, but still needs to be there so that it´s "então", not "estão", which is completely different.

**Note 2: If any of you people who actually speak portuguese have comments, please let me know.

And the weekly scripture:

Moisés 1:3-4
E Deus falou a Moisés, dizendo: Eis que eu sou o Senhor Deus Todo-Poderoso; e Infinito é meu nome, pois eu sou sem princípio de dias ou fim de anos; e não é isso infinito?
E eis que tu és meu filho, portanto, olha e mostrar-te-ei as obras de minhas mãos; mas não todas, porque minhas obras não tem fim nem tampouco minhas palavras, porque jamais cessam.

Moses 1:3-4
And God spake unto Moses, saying: Behold, I am the Lord God Almighty, and Endless is my name; for I am without beginning of days or end of years; and is not this endless?
And behold, thou art my son; wherefore look, and I will show thee the workmanship of my hands; but not all, for my works are without end, and also my words, for they never cease.

God is Lord of all the Earth, and nothing is beyond His power.

With His power, He created this Earth, the heavens, and all things that are here, including us.

This is not all: We are His children. He really is our Heavenly Father.

Because we are His children, we know that He loves us, and wants us to return to his presence.

Let us always remember this, that we are children of God who loves us.

Thank you,
Élder Hiatt
