Week 6: Última Semana no CTM

Hello family and friends,

I took a picture this week. I don´t have any way to get it onto the computer, so I will try to send it next week.

A few things to note about this picture:

* I am wearing a suit. Some of you said that I would wear a suit about 12 times during my whole mission. Following expectations of the CTM, I wear a suit every Sunday and Wednesday for church and the temple. I have worn it 12 times already, and will wear it again tomorrow.

* The clock of the building is in 24 hour time. This is Brazil, where things are a little different from the USA. Times are written in 24 hour time (but said in 12 hour am/pm time). Fasts go during dinner and breakfast and end at lunch. Cars can make left turns from the right lane right in front of another car in the left lane about to go straight. (I did see this happen once.)

* My watch. Before my mission, the knob broke off, so I couldn´t change the hour to match Brazil time instead of Colorado time. For the first several weeks, the time was exactly three hours off, which is fine. Then, about a week and a half ago, it stopped for about 40 minutes during lunch, so now my watch is 3 hours and 40 minutes off. I wear it upside-down now to make it easier to calculate the actual time.

Tomorrow, I will depart the CTM into the world of the actual Missão Brasil São Paulo Oeste. I can speak Portuguese pretty well, but I can´t understand it apparently, since I can´t listen to my sister and mom speaking Portuguese.

Also, my instructors took a couple pictures of the district this week. You should look at them.

Now for the weekly scripture.

Morôni 8:25-26
E o primeiro fruto do arrependimento é o batismo, que batismo vem pelo fé, para cumprir-se os mandamentos; e o cumprimento dos mandamentos traz remissão de pecados;

Moroni 8:25-26
And the first fruits of repentance is baptism; and baptism cometh by faith unto the fulfilling the commandments; and the fulfilling the commandments bringeth remission of sins;
And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometheth the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.

O primeiro princípio do Evangelho de Jesus Cristo é fé Nele.

The first principle of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is faith in Him.

Fé não é simplesmente crença, mas também é um princípio de ação. A mais importante ação é arrependimento.

Faith is not simply a belief, but it is a principle of action. The most important action that follows from faith is repentance.

Quando acreditar e arrepender, o seguinte ação é seguir o exemplo de Jesus Cristo e ser batizado em Seu nome. Esse é a primeira ordenança e convênio do Evangelho.

After believing and repenting, the next action is to follow the example of Jesus Christ and be baptized in His name. This is the first ordinance and covenant of the gospel.

Depois de batismo é o dom do Espírito Santo. Esse dom nos dá a companhia continuamente do Espírito Santo para orientação, guia, consolo, e direção durante toda a vida enquanto estamos dignos.

After baptism is the gift of the Holy Ghost. This gift gives us the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost for orientation, guidance, comfort, and direction for our life as long as we are worthy of it.

Thank you,
Elder Hiatt
